The 70s who doesn't like that era of culture? Rhetorical question of course (almost) everybody does. Was it either the funky disco music with so many poppy elements or was it the age of punk where graffiti, drugs and harder type of music had a huge come up. Back then you were either Disco or Punk and not in between, fast forward a couple of decades and we still notice the signs and the influence the 1970s had on the world and its culture. Personally both of my parents were raised in that era and that's exactly what inspired me to create this project.
With this project I had to think of a way to use the Vondelpark in Amsterdam as a stage for an event. With this event we had to choose a certain type of audience that doesn't visit the park often. So I choose people aged around 40 to 50 years old, most people of this age don't have the time to go out because of work, time, children and other responsibilities. With this event I wanted to give people a reason to spend more time on theirselves and make them aware to have more fun in life. With this in mind a came up with Four-On-The-Parkfloor which is a combination name of the Vondelpark and the rhythm of disco music. I wanted to create this project around that music genre because I think it unites people and it never grows old. This explains my choice of art direction in 70s style with its bright and standout color, along with flat design it is both modern and retro at the same time.
The project is completely digital because it was a criteria of the assignment. I wasn't allowed to create any print type of advertisement or products. I designed an app for the people to connect with each other and to stay updated on new event and to work as a trigger to actually go to one of the events. The app features a news feed, music player, event page, a map of the park and a friend list of people who own the app. As informative platform I also created a minimal website about the app and a TV campaign that hacks into normal commercials to create a hype for this new series of events.
